The HeadSkratcher: In the Works

There are cars, and then there are cars that come from the soul. For Los Angeles pinstriper and car builder Skratch his latest creation the “Headskratcher” comes from deep inside his tattooed psyche. The way out Model A Coupe is a combination of Ford bits mixed with a heavy dose of 1958 Cadillac. Skratch cut apart an entire Elvis-mobile and recycled as much of it as he could into the Headskratcher. Starting with a pair of highly customized rails, Skratch inserted the ’58 Caddy mill and dressed it up with some killer period speed goodies. The body would be the part he really made his own by combining an unsuspecting ’30 Model A coupe with the top from a ’34 Ford Sedan that was narrowed and shortened to fit the Coupe’s proportions. The top was also chopped 3-inched and filled with an insert left over from the Caddy carcass. The metal monster has custom touches everywhere you look, from the die-cut metal used in the grille insert and drilled American Stamping ’32 Ford frame rails to the crazy one-off exhaust system. Inside there’s plenty more Caddy parts to be found that all have cut, reshaped and welded to fit the tight quarters by Skratch.

The Headskratcher is still a work in progress so expect even more radical details by the time it emerges from the lab!

KATCHING UP WITH SKRATCH

Perhaps you have seen him at one of many car events laying down some killer lines, or in the magazines with one of his eye-grabbing creations like the “Headskratcher” or even talking to you from the other side of your T.V. screen on shows like “Overhaulin” and “Hot Rod TV”, but just in case you already haven’t met him please allow us to introduce our good fiend Skratch. We caught up with the Texas-raised globe hopper and asked him what’s been going on lately.

TSK- What’s been happening in Skratch’s Garage?

Skratch- right now I’m building a ’56 Ford pickup. It’s for one of the UFC fighters. When he pulled it in it looked like a pretty decent truck. He said “make it look more appealing without adding any crap”. I started with the chassis adding a Mustang II front-end and Z’d the rear frame. Then I got into the body and found some bondo that I needed to remove. I’ll give it a fade paint job and call it done.
